Amusing Bits From General Council Magazine

I've paraphrased the following quite liberally so you'll want to do your own fact checking before reaping any of it.

Herman Miller Inc. cant figure out how to sue to protect its intellectual property (IP). It's products (high end executive office furniture) as well as those of other company's is being faked (often badly) in 2nd life. The crumby models are thought to reflect poorly on the IP holder. Creator of 2nd life (Linden labs) claims its an ISP as as such would be immune to a lawsuit. And the avatars peddling the knock offs could be anybody. Further, sueing those who might consider themselves fans of your companies products is bad PR.

Median Total Cash Compensation for a company's General Council by major region:
*West - Including Montana, rocky mountain states, Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico - NO DATA AVAILABLE
*Pacific Coast - $350,000
*South East ("the south") - $420,000
*North East - $438,000
*Central - (plains states, Texas, Michigan Ohio and Indiana) - $456,000
An interesting pattern of higher pay on the middle of the country?

After having her identity stolen by a hospital employee after the birth of her Son Mrs. Sloane attempted to repair her damaged credit. She ultimately had to sue Equifax and was awarded $351,000. About 1/3 actual damages and 2/3 "pain and suffering" and Equifax must foot her $181.000 legal bill.

Oops: Context Sensitive Section Technology

One of the big things on the web these days is context sensitive content. The prime example is Google Ads that try to come up with ads that match the page content. Like a lot of such technologies its tough to get it perfect every time. And sometimes it goes totally wrong.

This Craigslist ad appears to indicate that the U.S. housing market is in trouble:
