Tip: Avoid dudes whose dream is getting the way of a day job.
What Counts: You'll want a guy with a real job. mechanic, accountant, bar tender, stock boy; doesn't matter. If it pays the bills, perfect.
What Doesn't Cut It: Part time work or employment that doesn't cover the bills. Self employment is iffy. If it supports the guy then fine.
We all have dreams. Pro-sports star, Hit Bandleader, Ballerina Princess, Race Car Driver, Pirate Astronaut. Dreams come in many forms. (And I'd like to note that that list does not represent myself; except for ballerina princess).
Dreams are great. We should all have them, especially when we are young. But what is a dream? A dream is something that you set aside when it gets in the way of your goals.
Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs and all that. It is probably fun to be with a dreamer. But will it be fun to be with that same dreamer when he's in the same spot on the couch when you get home from your job? It's good to have dreams but dreamers can have those dreams while pushing iPods at the local Best Buy. So look for a dude with a day job, it will tide him over until his ship comes in. And when it becomes clear that the ship is lost at sea he might accidentally have a career.
